Warm Up Time

Clearly it has been a long time since I've done anything like regular posting here, but November is right around the corner, and with it comes the posting-every-day-for-a-month challenge. So this week I've been warming up to get ready for the big push and I am excited - there are so many pictures, stories, and more to share: manta ray sightings, adventures in sewing, pregnancy announcements, etc.

So, yeah, stay tuned!

Part Two

It has been an intense few months with lots going on at work, church, school, and play. But a couple of weeks ago we got to go to Hawaii for the second part of our honeymoon! We had so, so much fun and really enjoyed the much needed break. My grandparents and aunt and uncle even secretly went over ahead of us to prepare the place and get groceries and everything set up - it was awesome. The week went by fast as we did a lot of exploring, snorkeling, and body boarding, and watched quite a bit of football and baseball :-)

Inappropriate

Last night as we were making dinner, the fire alarm went off. When the alarm goes off in the building, it also triggers the two in our actual apartment, and the noise is really quite piercing. Over the past 2 months, the alarm has gone off 4 or 5 times at least. We remarked that by now, we don't even bother going outside or checking to see if there is a fire - rather the opposite of the intent of fire alarms, I think. Not only is it annoying, but it probably serves to make us less safe. In order to be induced to leave my apartment now, I would have to see billowing smoke and hear screams of panic, most likely.

Thankfully, it has only actually woken us up one time. That is, before last night. Because it went off again at 11:30pm when we had entered that deep, restorative phase of sleep. And again around 12:15. And 1:10. And 1:23. And 2:30. And 3:05. And 3:12. And 4:30. And 5:45. And I am pretty sure a few more times in between. It's difficult to describe how painfully loud and shrill the alarms are, but I could feel the vibrations hitting my ears and it gave me a headache. It was agonizing.

Yet another reason I don't think I'm ready to have a baby yet. I like me some sleep.

That's not what I mean at all.

After watching a movie depicting the development of the first atomic weapons in the 1940s for Jesse to use in his student teaching:

Me: "Man, that was just so interesting! I really like learning about all this true life stuff that really happened in the past."

Jesse: "You mean you're starting to become interested in history?"

Me: "Uhh... No. I just like true life stories...from the past."
